X-treme Sports : Snowboarding
Snowboarding is similar to skiing, but inspired by surfing and skateboarding. The sport was developed in the United States in the 1960's and 1970's and became a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998.
Now it finally became accepted as a real competetive sport, not only a new trend which would disapear again.
In the 1998 Olympics this new sport, snowboarding, was a huge success!
In 1998, snowboarding was almost 50% of all winter activity. Most of the ski resorts now accept skiers and snowboarders.
Snowboarding is finally accepted by everyone!
(Está bem atento nas próximas aulas de Inglês pois irás falar de outros desportos radicais onde a adrenalina é a palavra-chave! Entretanto diverte-te com o video e fica a saber um bocadinho mais sobre este fantástico desporto, o Snowboard!)

X-treme Sports
SKATEBOARDING
In the middle of the sixties (anos 60) a short, nice film introduced a new phenomenen: skateboarding.
A new sport which took planksurfing, which is usually done in the surf.
This new sensation became popular in the USA. National championships have been hold.
The people liked the jumps, which the skateboarders made. At first this sport was done individual. Nowadays more and more people are looking for competitions. The majority of the people however is undoubtedly happiest when they can skateboard on the sidewalks or on the street, because it isn't easy at all and you must be a dare-devil.

paraskavedekatriaphobia!!!!!!!!!!
A Friday occurring on the 13th day of any month is considered to be a day of bad luck in English and Portuguese-speaking cultures around the globe. Similar superstitions exist in some other traditions. In Greece and Spain, for example, Tuesday the 13th takes the same role. The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia, a specialized form of triskaidekaphobia, a phobia (fear) of the number thirteen.
Sabes o que é "triscaidecafobia"? É o medo das sextas-feiras 13. Diz-se que dá azar, mas não passa de superstição!

Learn about Dolphins
Dolphins are mammals, not fish.
bottlenose dolphin
They are warm blooded like man, and give birth to one baby, called a calf, at a time.
At birth, a bottlenose dolphin calf is about 90-130 cms long and will grow to approximately 4 metres, living up to 40 years.
They are highly sociable animals, living in groups, called pods, which are fairly fluid, with dolphins from other pods interacting with each other from time to time.
Dolphins carry their young inside their womb for about 12 months. The baby is born tail first, and its mother will feed the calf for up to 2 years.
However, the calf will stay with its mother for between 3-6 years, during which time it will learn all about feeding techniques, social interaction and group hunting.

An English Poem (just for fun!)
"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash, and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox.
And there's one more - that's seventeen!
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut, my eyes are blue-
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke
I'm sure that my left leg is broke.
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb,
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my spine is weak.
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent - my spine ain't straight.
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is-
...WHAT?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is...Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!
"Did you understand the poem??
It's funny, isn't it?
If you didn't understand it, try to find out the meaning of the underlined words!Bye... see you in class...

Amazing London!!
Olá amigos! Ocasionalmente serão publicados aqui no blog alguns posts sobre a cidade de Londres, os seus monumentos mais famosos, a sua história, algumas curiosidades e notícias relevantes.Não deixes de comentar e deixar as tuas sugestões
Big Ben
Big Ben is one of London's best-known tourist landmarks, and looks truly spectacular at night when the clock faces are illuminated. You even know when parliament is in session, because a light shines above the clock face. The name Big Ben actually refers not to the clock-tower itself, but to the thirteen ton bell hung within. The bell was named after the first commissioner of works, Sir Benjamin Hall. The clock in the tower was once the biggest in the world, able to strike the first blow for each hour with an accuracy of one second. The clock mechanism was completed by 1854, but the tower was not fully constructed until four years later.
Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge has stood over the River Thames in London since 1894 and is one of the finest, most recognisable bridges in the World. At the Tower Bridge Exhibition you can enjoy breath-taking views from the high-level Walkways and learn about the history of the Bridge and how it was built. You can then visit the Victorian Engine Rooms, home to the original steam engines that used to power the Bridge lifts.Tower Bridge Walkways have specially designed windows, giving visitors a unique opportunity to take photos of the views without them being obscured by glass.
